Yin Xiuzhen (尹秀珍; born 1963 in Beijing) is a Chinese sculpture and installation artist. She studied oil painting in the Department of Fine Arts at Capital Normal University, then called Beijing Normal Academy, in Beijing from 1985 to 1989. After graduating, Yin taught at the high school attached to the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.
Her work has been described by Phyllis Teo as "possessing human warmth, intimacy, and a sense of nostalgia that encourages self-examination of traditions, emotions, and beliefs. Thus, it creates a sense of community and belonging in the viewer."
Conceptually, she incorporates discarded textiles and mementos from her childhood in Beijing to demonstrate the relationship between memory and cultural identity. She has also used pots and pans, wooden crates, suitcases, and cement in her work.
Yin Xiuzhen participated in the group exhibition “Silent Threads” at the Redbase Foundation in 2024.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
