ARTIST BIO

Amin Taasha, born in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, in 1995, is a contemporary artist based in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He began his artistic journey by specialising in calligraphy at the Kabul Institute of Fine Arts and later earning a Bachelor’s degree from the Yogyakarta Fine Art Institute (ISI). Taasha’s practice is a convergence of diverse cultural influences, notably from Central Asia, Greece, and Buddhism, resulting in his distinctive Greco-Buddhist style. Rooted in his rich heritage, he seamlessly blends together elements such as ancient Persian script, Buddhist symbols, and Afghan miniature motifs in his creations. Drawing from techniques of Chinese calligraphy and Zen abstraction, Taasha achieves a harmonious synthesis of tradition and innovation in his works. His artistic excellence has earned him international acclaim, with exhibitions across institutions in Indonesia, Malaysia, Afghanistan, Lebanon, Italy, France, Germany, Canada, and the USA. Notable highlights include his participation in the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art in Brisbane and DOCUMENTA in Kabul. His works find homes in esteemed museum collections, including the Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art in Nusantara and The Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art.
