REDBASE Art Space: Agus Wijaya

Indonesia Artist
Agus Wijaya

ARTIST BIO

Agus Wijaya was born in Cianjur, West Java. Wijaya is an Indonesian artist and now based in Australia. Agus continues to explore the intersection of visual art and identity, often engaging with themes of displacement, cultural hybridity, and silence.
Agus is known for his experimental approach to painting and mixed media, incorporating elements of sculpture, and digital. His practice often questions visual perception and cultural memory, exploring the dissonance between appearance and meaning. In his works, colour fields, distortion, and spatial ambiguity are used as metaphors for personal history and diasporic experience.

Agus recent works have been featured at “Geographies of the self” Group exhibition at Redbase Art Gallery, Sydney and participated in Art Jakarta 2023.

Agus has been selected as a finalist in the 68th Blake Prize, 24th Dobell Prize, Wollahra Small Sculpture Prize, Fisher’s Ghost and The Churchie Emerging Art Prize at the Institute of Modern Art.
