Wu Xueliang was born in 1978 in Pingyao, Shanxi Province, China. He graduated from the Department of Printmaking at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and later completed his postgraduate studies in traditional Chinese painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing.
Wu Xueliang’s artistic concepts often draw upon traditional Chinese aesthetics, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. His work is defined by a minimalist approach, employing ink, paper, and subtle textures to evoke emotional depth, stillness, and poetic contemplation.
In 2024, Wu Xueliang participated in the group exhibition “(Between) Heaven & Earth” at Redbase Art Sydney. That same year, he was also featured in the Sydney Contemporary art fair, presenting his refined visual language to an international audience.
Wu has exhibited extensively in China and abroad, including solo and group shows in Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo, and Beijing. His works are part of major institutional collections, such as the Harvard University Art Museum, Jiangsu Art Museum, and Xuyuan Art Museum.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
