Ichwan Noor was born in 1963 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He studied sculpture and visual art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta and now serves as both a sculptor and professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Yogyakarta.
Noor’s artistic practice centers on large-scale sculptural forms that blend elements of the human body, animals, and technology. His signature series, Beetle Sphere, reimagines a 1953 Volkswagen Beetle as a geometrical sphere—invoking transformation, memory, and the symbolic potential of everyday objects.
He has actively collaborated with Redbase Art in several international art fairs, including Art Central (2016), Art Expo (2016) , and ART Stage (2016).
Noor’s sculptures have also been featured in exhibitions across Europe and Asia, and he was honored with the Best Artwork Award at the Indonesia Art Motoring exhibition held at the National Gallery of Indonesia in 2011.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
