Ichwan Noor, born in 1963 in Jakarta, graduated from the School of Visual Arts at the Indonesian Institute of Art, Yogyakarta. His renowned series of artworks, titled “Beetle Sphere,” is made from an actual 1953 Volkswagen Beetle, combined with polyester and aluminium and transformed into a perfect sphere. The idea emerged from a personal perception towards objects that are products of a “transportation culture”, which induces hints/signs of spiritual emotion. This artworks series has been presented in his solo exhibition at Alex Daniels-Reflex Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His artistic excellence has earned him international acclaim, with exhibitions ranging from solo showcases to group presentations across Indonesia, China, Australia, The Netherlands, Italy, Singapore, and Switzerland.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
