Indonesia Artist
Faelerie

ARTIST BIO

Faelerie was born in Wonosobo, Indonesia in 1994 and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Art majoring in visual communication at the Indonesia Institute of Art Yogyakarta. For Falerie, crocheting is a process of forming real lines through threads then forming surfaces, shapes and volumes. Crochet is a monotonous activity and takes quite a long time, hence, this made her think about other things and recall past memories. Her works are about how she brings back a sense of past memories. It is memory and experience that then form a character in them. Notable works by Faelerie include Merenda Tubuh, Menghias Luka (2023) and Skin Off (2023) which detail the female body and its wounded odyssey, along with experiences of trauma and healing. Through crocheted depictions of human tissues with splatters of blood, hands and female breasts scarred by holes and tears, she invites an unfiltered portrayal of her bodyscape, where the healing process is a form of survival; and life’s poetry is but the hope for triumph over challenges. Faelerie has taken part in several group exhibitions at Redbase (2024, 2023, 2022), ARTJOG at Jogja National Museum (2023), Art:1 New Museum Jakarta (2022), and Jogja Affordable Art at Jogja Gallery (2022).
