Yohanes Wahyu was born in 1990 in Indonesia. He graduated from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, majoring in Printmaking.
Yohanes Wahyu’s artistic practice draws heavily from cultural narratives, mythology, and personal interpretations of civilization. His works often explore how history and memory are visualized, combining traditional stories with humorous references to pop culture. In one of his notable series, he reimagines the tale of Ki Ageng Mangir—an obscure historical figure from Javanese chronicles—by merging it with characters like Mr. Bean and Doraemon, rendered through etching prints.
In 2019, he held a solo exhibition titled Life Report at Redbase Foundation, Yogyakarta. He has also participated in several group exhibitions, including Redefining Chapter and Walking In the Rhythm at Redbase Foundation, and international showcases at Auckland Art Fair, New Zealand (2018 and 2019), as well as exhibitions at Jogja National Museum.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
