Dita was born in Jakarta, 1986. She graduated with Bachelor of Fine Art degree majoring Sculpture from Institut Teknologi Bandung and Master of Art degree majoring Production Design for Film & Television from Kingston University, London. Dita talks about different issues around her, a young woman experiencing the contemporary urban culture. She arranges the hair braids and combines them with various elements, using them as unlimited metaphors. They appear quite relaxed, laden with fashion references, but at the same time slightly agitated, peppered with tension, irony and humor. These objects represent the issue of ambiguity that is related to the imaginations about love relationship or the institution of marriage, or about a fragment of domestic life. At the same time, they also create signs of doubts. Her works in fact move between her cultural and traditional background and the urban culture infused with western notions, which is no surprise given the spread of global culture. Her works have been featured in several exhibitions like her solo exhibition, “White Lies”, Inkubator at Forme Building, Jakarta (2011), group exhibition, “Dysfashional #6” Indonesian National Gallery, Jakarta (2011), “Versi: Triennale Patung Kontemporer Indonesia” Indonesian National Gallery, Jakarta (2014), and “Revisited” One East Asia, Singapore (2012). She also received an award from Bandung Contemporary Art Award, Lawang Wangi (2011).
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
