ARTIST BIO

Stephan Kaluza is a German photorealist painter born in 1964 in Bad Iburg, who lives and works in Düsseldorf. Kaluza studied his masters at the Peter Behrens School of Art. He also brings a rich intellectual background to his art, having studied Art History at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and Philosophy at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf that have deeply informed his creative practice.

He frequently depicts landscapes—forests, oceans, and sites of historical tension—to convey questions about perception, time, and human presence.

Since 1995, Kaluza’s work has been acquired by numerous significant museum collections, including the Museum Walter / Glaspalast, Sammlung Teutloff, Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck, Gwangju Museum of Art, Museum Voorlinden, and the Museum Kunstpalast. His work has also been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Museum on the Seam, the Kunsthallen in Düsseldorf and Osnabrück, Museum Voorlinden, the Jaffa Museum, Museum Kunstpalast, and the National Museum of Contemporary Art Korea.
