ARTIST BIO

Moira Mai (Jingru Mai) is a Chinese-born artist currently based in Sydney, Australia. She is pursuing a PhD at the University of Sydney, having previously completed her Honours in Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts with a focus on glass and ceramics.
Her practice explores feminist themes, intergenerational memory, emotional landscapes, and queer identity, particularly lesbian visibility. She works across media—primarily glass—often incorporating textiles, ink, and metal to build layered, poetic installations.

In 2025, she took part in the group exhibition The World is an Uneven Surface at Redbase Foundation, Indonesia. She has also exhibited in New Contemporaries (2023, 2024) at SCA, Sydney.

Her work has earned recognition including the Forbes China Youth Artist 100 Excellent Artwork Award and the Second Prize of the Asian Youth Rookie Award. She remains active in the Chinese-Australian contemporary art network.
