ARTIST BIO

Bibiana Lee was born in 1956 in Malaysia and is a multidisciplinary artist currently based in Australia. She studied at Curtin University in Australia, as well as Hollings College and the Manchester Institute of Science and Technology in the United Kingdom. Over the years, she has participated in numerous visual art workshops both in Indonesia and internationally. 

Bibiana practices with a plethora of materials and techniques which are infused by personal observations, lived experiences and critical inquiry. She creates art that is a reflection of the real world, a product of its context in her perspective, at times giving voices to those who have been silenced, and aiming to incite a deeper awareness of the issues unfolding around us. Bibiana’s work explores themes such as minority discrimination, political repression, identity, gender, globalization, and socio-economic inequality. Her pieces often incorporate text or language layered over diverse materials, offering poignant visual narratives that challenge perceptions and inspire dialogue.

Bibiana’s recent works have been featured at Museum Nasional Indonesia, ARTJOG, Gallery Benefit at the National Gallery Singapore, and more.
