Sunyoung Park (b. 1982) is an artist whose practice centers on photosculpture, a hybrid form that combines photography and sculpture. Her work explores how photographic images can be expanded beyond two-dimensional representation into spatial and tactile experiences. In her approach, photosculpture becomes a way to engage the physicality of images—through folding, layering, and shaping materials into sculptural forms that retain traces of photographic memory.
Park’s ongoing research includes a conceptual study of photosculpture, which is set to be published in Culture & History Digital Journal (A&HCI, SSCI-indexed), as well as analytical work on the medium from both inter- andpost-disciplinary perspectives.
She has participated in a range of art projects supported by international and national institutions, both governmental and independent. These include projects hosted or funded by Gudskul Ecosystem(Indonesia, 2024), Xi’an Art Museum (China, 2023), University of Paris 8 Saint-Denis (France, 2019), and the Gyeonggi Art Council (South Korea, 2018), among others.
