Liu Xi is a ceramic sculptor whose practice expands both the technical and conceptual boundaries of the medium. A graduate of the Sculpture Department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), Beijing, she works between Jingdezhen and, more recently, Valencia, Spain.
Characterized by meticulous craftsmanship and a restrained sensuality, Liu’s sculptural works examine themes of sexuality and intimacy, freedom and constraint, identity and selfformation, as well as the fluid tensions between femininity and masculinity. Through sustained material experimentation across form, surface, and process, she transforms ceramics into a critical language that is at once bodily, poetic, and conceptually rigorous.
Liu has participated in numerous exhibitions and international ceramic biennales across China, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Denmark, South Korea, and the United States. Her work has received international recognition, including First Prize at the VIII International Ceramic Biennale, El Vendrell (2015), and the Silver Prize at the Taiwan Ceramic Biennale (2016). Her works are held in major public and private collections, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), London, the White Rabbit Collection, Sydney, and the Yingge Ceramics Museum, Taiwan.
