ARTIST BIO

TIFANI ANGGUN

Tifani Anggun Saraswati (b. Malang, 1996), graduated from Indonesian art Institute of Yogyakarta (ISI Yogyakarta) in 2019. She currently lives and work in Jakarta, Indonesia. Her  practice explores memory, materiality, and the emotional resonance of color through the use of latex as a primary medium. With a background in interior design, she is deeply influenced by the relationship between surface, texture, and spatial perception, as well as the ways materials can hold sensory and psychological experiences.

Since beginning her visual art practice in 2023, Tifani has been drawn to unconventional materials that challenge certainty and control within the creative process. Latex became central to her work because of its transparency, elasticity, and unpredictable behavior. Working intuitively, she builds each piece through layers that are applied gradually over extended periods of time. The slow accumulation of these layers allows transformation, chance, and temporality to become active elements within the work itself.

Her practice is rooted in fragmented memories and emotional impressions. While specifc moments from the past may fade, colors often remain vividly embedded in her mind. These lingering traces become the foundation of her visual language. Through translucent surfaces, muted tensions, and layered compositions, Tifani constructs works that reflect the instability of remembering—revealing emotions that feel intimate, fragile, and unresolved.

The repetitive process of layering latex also functions as a meditative act. Rather than forcing a predetermined outcome, she allows the material to guide the direction of each piece, embracing unpredictability as part of the work’s meaning. In this way, her practice becomes an exploration of impermanence, vulnerability, and the quiet tension between preservation and disappearance.

Through her works, Tifani invites viewers into a contemplative space where memory, sensation, and material coexist—where what is transparent can still carry emotional weight, and where uncertainty becomes an essential part of creation.
