Simon Whetham was born in 1973 in the United Kingdom. Since 2005, he has been developing a sound-based artistic practice that explores the use of sound as a primary material.
Simon Whetham’s work focuses on revealing hidden or often unheard sonic phenomena through environmental recordings and spatial experimentation. Treating sound as an active agent, he transforms physical space and everyday objects into instruments that respond to and shape auditory experience. His practice spans experimental sound art, installation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, creating immersive environments that engage both perception and presence.
In 2019, Simon Whetham presented a solo exhibition titled Composed During a Storm at Redbase Foundation, Yogyakarta.
His work has also been featured in international festivals and exhibitions such as Moers Festival (Germany), Madeiradig (Portugal), ACC Showcase (South Korea), Nakanojo Biennale (Japan), and Fresh Winds Biennale (Iceland).
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
