Amal Sae

ARTIST BIO

Amal Sae, also known as Mujohn, was born in Java and graduated from Yogyakarta State University (UNY) majoring in painting.
Sae's artistic concepts increasingly focus on local issues rooted in his Javanese background, including history, myth, and cultural heritage. Over time, his exploration of identity moved into more personal territory, drawing from his experiences within the family and domestic space. While his subject matter became more intimate, he retained the visual language of pop surrealism to narrate his stories making his work both personal and collectively resonant.

In 2019, Sae participated in the group exhibition “Redefining Chapter” at Redbase Foundation Indonesia.

In 2017, Sae participated in a group exhibition UOB Painting of the Year.
