Ronald Effendi was born in Batu Sangkar, West Sumatra, in 1981. He graduated from the Fine Art Department at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta and is an active member of the SAKATO art community. He currently lives and works in Yogyakarta.
Ronald is known for his abstract approach that resists fixed narratives. He explores lines, forms, and textures in experimental compositions. Rejecting direct explanations, he allows each viewer to engage freely with the visual experience.
He has exhibited in Forms of Diversity (2018) and Walking in the Rhythm (2019) at Redbase Foundation Yogyakarta.
Ronald was a finalist for the JAA Art Award Jakarta, the Philip Morris Art Awards, and the Indofood Art Awards. His work is featured in The Journey of Indonesian Painting (Bentara Budaya collection) and is documented in platforms such as IndoArtNow and the IVAA Archive.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
