ARTIST BIO

Antonio S. Sinaga, born in Surabaya in 1988, is an artist hailing from Bandung, Indonesia. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Ceramic Art from Bandung Institute of Technology. Being a member of a minority group in a predominantly Muslim nation has provided Sinaga with a multifaceted perspective on the interplay between religions and society, a theme consistently explored in his artwork. His contemplative reflections find expression through photography, applied printmaking, and ceramics. Often, his work serves as a platform for social critique, observation, and the expression of personal viewpoints, which evolve over time in response to prevailing social conditions and his own lived experiences. His artworks aim to prompt viewers to critically "re-question" their beliefs and societal norms, as Sinaga believes that unquestioning commitment to faith is inherently perplexing. Sinaga's artistic prowess has garnered him international recognition, with his works featured in a variety of exhibitions both solo and group-based, spanning locales within Indonesia and beyond. His inaugural solo exhibition, "Bandung Contemporary - Solo Project: In Absentia" (2013), was hosted at Rumah Seni Sarasvati in Bandung, Indonesia. Additionally, his pieces have been showcased in group exhibitions such as "Art Moments 15: Rooms with a View" (2015) at the Jogja National Museum and "The Concept of Self: on Power, Identity, and Label" (2017) at Subhashok the Art Center in Bangkok, Thailand. Collaborating with Redbase Art Sydney, Sinaga has participated in numerous exhibitions, including the solo presentation "Doubt Is Good" (2023) and group shows like "Cross of the Matters" (2024), Art Jakarta (2023), and "Redbase Diaries #22" (2022). Among his notable achievements are winning first prize in awards such as Indonesia Art Awards (2015) and Someardja Art Awards (2012).
