ARTIST BIO

Nasirun (born October 1, 1965) is a painter, artist, art collector, and Maestro of painting who is famous for the use of elements of Javanese culture in each of his works. Nasirun is not only famous in Indonesia but also famous throughout Southeast Asia, even Europe and North America. Nasirun was born in Cilacap regency, Central Java on October 1, 1965, but now he lives and resides in Wates which is included in the Special Region of Yogyakarta province. As an artist, Nasirun was born to a family of workers and farmers in the southern coastal areas of Java. Although not born into a family of artists, Nasirun remained determined to become a great artist. Nasirun's interest in the art world began when he was a child, he was very fond of Shadow Puppets. Uniquely, Nasirun liked Shadow Puppets not only in terms of stories and legends, but also because of the shape, ornament, and color. Nasirun studied art at the Yogyakarta School of Fine Arts and graduated in 1983, then he continued his education at the Department of painting, Faculty of Fine Arts at the Indonesian Institute of Arts Yogyakarta in 1987 and graduated in 1994. As one of the famous artists Nasirun has had several solo exhibitions, even since he was a student at the Indonesian Institute of Arts Yogyakarta. Solo exhibitions held by Nasirun include; Mirota Kampus Yogyakarta and Cafe Solo, Bank Bali in Yogyakarta (1993), Ngono Yo Ngono, Mung Ojo Ngono, National Gallery of Indonesia in Jakarta (1999), Nadi Gallery in Jakarta (2002). His last solo exhibition was held at Sangkring Art Space, Yogyakarta with the theme Salam Bekti in 2009 to commemorate and commemorate the 1000 days of his mother's death.
