Michal Heiman

ARTIST BIO

 Michal Heiman was born in 1954 and is based in Tel Aviv, Israel. She studied interdisciplinary art with a strong foundation in photography, installation, curatorial practice, art theory, and psychology. She is also a member of the Tel Aviv Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis.
Heiman’s artistic practice focuses on human rights, trauma, and the role of visual media in diagnosis and perception. She is known for the Michal Heiman Tests (M.H.T.), a series of image-based installations inspired by psychological assessments. Her ongoing project Radical Link: A New Community of Women, 1855–2020 investigates the narratives of marginalized women across time. Her work The Blind Triptych (2022) is part of the permanent collection at Centre Pompidou, Paris.

 In 2022, she held a solo exhibition Traversing Time and Space at Redbase Art Sydney. 

She has exhibited internationally at institutions such as Documenta X (Kassel), the Jewish Museum New York, Museum Ludwig (Cologne), Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven), and MOMA Saitama (Japan). In 2010, Heiman became the inaugural recipient of the Shpilman International Prize for Excellence in Photography by the Israel Museum. In 2015, she founded Women in Academia, and in 2018, An Academy of Her Own, both advocating for gender equality in art and education.
