Meliantha Muliawan (b. 1992, Pontianak) artistic practice is centered on her observation of domestic objects in her environment. Her interest is to understand the functions and roles of these objects in our daily lives, in relation to human behavior and the social situations we find ourselves in. Resin and acrylic feature as key mediums of exploration in her practice. Resin allows her to preserve (literally and metaphorically) the state of her subjects, freezing them in a moment in time, while acrylic paint on cloth or canvas works to simultaneously conceal and expose, just as clothes do. She has won UOB Painting of the Year Indonesia 2021, and emerged as one of the top 3 finalists for Young Artist Award at ARTJOG 11 in 2018. She has exhibited in Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, Singapore and Melbourne, including the Biennale Jogja Equator 5 2019, Art Jakarta 2018, ART JOG 2018, and ART BALI 2018.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
