Kalya Risangdaru is an Indonesian artist who graduated with a degree in English Literature from Bina Nusantara University in 2017. A self-taught painter, she began her journey through childhood experiences watching her parents draw and later transitioned from working in the private sector to pursuing art full-time.
Her works often address themes of womanhood, beauty standards, mental health, and self-acceptance, using watercolor and gouache on paper or plywood. She explores personal and social narratives through figurative imagery, particularly centered on the female body.
In 2018, she participated in the group exhibition Eyes of Matrix at Redbase Foundation, Yogyakarta. Her works have also been shown at Jakarta Art Week (2019), Senyawa ArtSpace, Jogja Affordable Art #2, and Museum Tanah Liat Jakarta.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
