Ida Lawrence was born in Australia and is currently based in Berlin, Germany. She graduated in 2009 with a major in painting from the National Art School, Sydney, and completed her Honours at Sydney College of the Arts. She also studied traditional Indonesian dance at the Indonesia Institute of Arts, Yogyakarta, through the Darmasiswa Scholarship program.
Lawrance is known for blending storytelling and painting, creating works that are rich in narrative and personal reflection. Her practice often draws from cross cultural experiences and playful language, exploring translation, memory, and myth. Her painted stories travel across continents, connecting her Australian roots with her deep engagement with Indonesian culture.
In 2018, Lawrance appeared in a solo exhibition “Jangan Lupa Bawa Oleh-Oleh Ya”,at Redbase Foundation.
Lawrance has been involved in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Urban Nation Museum, Berlin, 16albermarle, Sydney, sweet pea, Perth, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Sydney, and many more.
