ARTIST BIO

Gegerboyo is a collaborative project founded in 2016 in Yogyakarta, initiated by five artists: Vendy Methodos, EnkaNkmr, Dian Suci Rahmawati, Ipeh Nur and Prihatmoko Moki.

Gegerboyo’s artistic practice draws inspiration from Javanese cultural tradition, urban narratives, and their intersections with contemporary socio-political issues. One of their notable projects, Tan Hana Dharma Magrwa, explores the symbolism of pennants or flags traditionally used for identification in times of war as visual and conceptual elements. The group reflects on these symbols' historical functions and repositions them in modern day contexts to investigate identity, resistance, and collectivity.

In 2019, Gegerboyo held their solo exhibition “Tan Hana Dharma Mangrwa" and participated in the group exhibition “Redefining Chapter”, both at Redbase Foundation Indonesia. Most recently, in 2023, they presented the solo exhibition “Convergence" at Redbase Art Sydney.

Gegerboyo has been involved in numerous group exhibitions in Indonesia, Ibuki Island, Japan, Jones Art Center, Oregon, USA, and the National Museum of Qatar, Doha.
