Fikky Ananda was born in 1996 in Indonesia. She holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. Her artistic journey began in 2017, when she immersed herself in the world of batik as both a cultural heritage and a means of artistic expression.
Fikky’s practice blends traditional batik techniques with conventional painting methods, using canting and brushes to create intricate compositions on fabric. Her works often explore the theme of utopia—imagined spaces of perfection and hope—while also engaging with social issues through symbolic narratives. One of her notable pieces, Amplop Mancing Amplop, critiques the entrenched culture of bribery in Indonesia.
In 2024, she participated in the group exhibition My Culture on Cotton – The Contemporary Art of Batik at Redbase Foundation, Yogyakarta.
Her works have also been showcased internationally, including the Caledonie Batik International Exhibition at Art Factory a Noumea Gallery and the Batik International Exhibition at Centre Culturel du Mont-Dore, France (2022).
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
