Artist in Residence #5
Suvi Wahyudianto is a visual artist based in Surabaya, East Java. His work focuses on exploring and analyzing his culture, the Madurese, through his art. Suvi's creative process involves observing daily life, reflecting on historical studies, and engaging in rich experimentation with various techniques and installations. During a two-month residency at the REDBASE Foundation Yogyakarta, Suvi aimed to deepen his understanding of Madurese culture in diaspora—specifically how it adapts when the Madurese people migrate to other islands. Throughout his residency, Suvi conducted ethnographic research, observations, and interviews, as well as engaged in discussions with the Madurese community in Yogyakarta.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
