I Wayan Upadana, born in Gianyar, Bali in 1983, is a distinguished Indonesian artist celebrated for his mastery of painting and sculpture. Residing and working in Bali, he honed his craft at ISI Yogyakarta, Indonesia, graduating with a specialisation in sculpture in 2008.
His artistic journey has been marked by significant milestones, including solo exhibitions such as “Misty Myths” at Orbital Dago Bandung, Indonesia, in 2023 and “Memory” at Fremantle Art Centre, Western Australia, in 2016. Notable group exhibitions include the Jakarta Biennale #14 in 2011, “Maximum City” at the National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta, and the “Skala” Triennale Sculpture at the Indonesian National Gallery, Jakarta, in 2017. Additionally, his work has been featured internationally, notably at the “Beyond: Balissering” exhibition at the fortyfive Downstair Gallery, Melbourne, Australia, in 2016. Upadana has been an artist-in-residence at the Fremantle Art Centre, Western Australia, in 2014, an artist-in-residence at All Saints College, Western Australia, in 2019, and a participant in the Marble Art Residency at Gallery National Langkawi, Malaysia.
