Moch Krismon Ariwijaya, born in 1998, is a Surabaya-based artist and a graduate of the University of State Surabaya. His deep interest in history, shaped by his engagement with society, serves as a foundation for his recent art projects. He focuses on retrieving and reconstructing nearly lost and forgotten historical fragments, treating them as essential parts that need to be assembled into a coherent whole. This process aims to reveal the complexity and value embedded in history. Given Indonesia's rich and expansive past, one of his key areas of exploration is the September 1965 event. This year-long art project delves into the 1965 event, using history to offer various perspectives and fostering collective reflection on our values and historical understanding for the future. For Ariwijaya, art is a means of raising awareness about the social, political, economic, and cultural issues present in our environment.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
