ARTIST BIO

Paul Bai was born in 1968 in Tianjin, China, and migrated to Australia in 1988. He holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours in Painting) and a PhD in Visual Art from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.
Paul Bai’s practice engages with the notion of space, often traversing the conceptual, physical, and experiential dimensions. His work spans painting, video, installation, and photography, addressing liminality and perceptual ambiguity through minimalist forms and conceptual gestures.

In 2024, he presented a solo exhibition titled Spatial Room No.2 at Redbase Art Sydney, which further developed his investigation into spatial tension and phenomenological experience. His participation with Redbase situates his work within a transnational dialogue of contemporary art between Asia and Australia.

Paul Bai has exhibited extensively across major institutions including the Queensland Art Gallery, Singapore Art Museum, OCAT Shanghai, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts, Museum of Brisbane, and the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.
