ARTIST BIO

Rabiatul Asqiah born in 1995, lives and works in Padangpanjang, West Sumatra. She is a graduate in arts crafts education from the Indonesian Institute of Arts Padangpanjang, West Sumatra, is driven by a fervent desire to preserve the tradition of batik. This commitment is evident in her unique approach of incorporating batik techniques into her paintings. Through her artistry, Rabiatul weaves narratives of Indonesian local wisdom, portraying cultural icons like traditional dances, temples, and wayang in a distinctively romantic manner. Nature serves as a main inspiration, with floral patterns dominating her works.

In her work “Jingga Rama Cak Dewata,” Rabiatul skillfully reimagines the tale of Rama and Shinta from the Ramayana, setting the scene on the picturesque island of Bali. The artwork is enriched with iconic Balinese features and vivid floral patterns, creating a visual feast for the audience. Another notable creation, “Cantingku Canting Emas (My Gold Canting),” captures the essence of knowledge transfer in the art of batik-making, symbolized by the passing down of skills from mother to daughter. Highlighting the predominantly female role in batik making, Rabiatul’s works becomes a poignant representation of batik as a cultural heritage deeply interwoven across generations.
