Made Wiguna Valasara was born in 1983 in Bali, Indonesia. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, initially studying Sculpture before majoring in Painting.
Valasara's works are known for their distinctive technique of layered canvas, combining traditional Balinese visual forms with contemporary sensibilities. His artistic concepts often question the romanticized image of Bali, while offering a tactile experience through the use of embroidery, stuffed canvas, and other materials.
In 2024 and 2025, Valasara participated in group exhibitions at Redbase Art Sydney and joined the Aotearoa Art Fair with Redbase Foundation at the Viaduct Events Centre, New Zealand.
Valasara has also been involved in various notable exhibitions in Indonesia, including the Biennale Jogja XIV, Selasar Sunaryo Art Space, and Art Agenda SEA. He was a finalist for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize and the UOB Painting of the Year Award.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
