There is no storyline

AT A GLANCE

There is no storyline brings together two artists preoccupied with the boundaries of time and absence. Li Kezheng and Jingwei Bu explore what it means to be at the so-called "end of art" found in Western abstraction, where they look towards temporal unfoldings in Eastern aesthetics. Li Kezheng paints hard-edge geometries that float in hazy voids of space. His paintings evoke spiritual contemplations guided by Eastern thought on the state of being. Meanwhile, the performance and paintings by Jingwei Bu are distilled from her ongoing actions surrounding a single cup of tea. The Tea Party paintings use tea stains and soft shadows to mark the flow of time through ceremony. Coupled with a mimed performance on opening night titled Tea NO Tea, Jingwei uses the absence of space around an event as a source for contemplation. For the artists, there is no narrative – only unfolding processes of action and inaction.
