Angga Deri Pradeta was born in 1993 in Indonesia and is currently based in Yogyakarta. He holds a degree in Sculpture from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta. His artistic research, Barang di Sekitar Sebagai Sumber Ide Penciptaan dalam Seni Patung (2018), investigates how everyday industrial and domestic objects can be transformed into new sculptural meanings through perceptual shifts and material experimentation. Pradetya’s practice is rooted in his exploration of how objects ranging from gas canisters and car tires to household tools and musical instruments; carry psychological, cultural, and functional layers. Through cutting, assembling, and reconfiguring, he reinterprets these familiar items to challenge the boundaries between utility, symbolism, and aesthetics.
Pradetya’s recent works highlight his interest in the dialogue between industrial materials and imaginative form-making. In Fresh (2018), a gas cylinder morphs into an avocado-like organic shape, while Dunkin (2018) humorously transforms a tire into a giant doughnut, subverting expectation and prompting viewers to reconsider their relationship with the objects around them. His works have been exhibited in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, including with Redbase Foundation and the National Gallery of Indonesia. Through these presentations, Pradetya continues to contribute to broader conversations on contemporary craft, perception, and the evolving significance of material culture in Indonesia.
We pay our respects to the Gundungurra people who are the traditional custodians of the land. We acknowledge Elders past, present and emerging for their immense spiritual connection to place which was never ceded.
